Zimogen kaspaze-1

Kaspaza-1/Interleukin-1 pretvarajući enzim (ICE) je evolucijski konzervirani enzim koji proteolitski cijepa druge proteine, kao što su prekursori upalnih citokina interleukina-1β i interleukina-18, kao i induktora piroptoza gasdermina D, u aktivne zrele peptide. To jest enzim koji je kod ljudi kodiran genom CASP-1 sa hromosoma 11.[5][6][7] Ima centralnu ulogu u ćelijskoj imunosti kao inicijator upalnog odgovora. [Jednom aktiviran kroz formiranje inflamasomskog kompleksa, on inicira proupalni odgovor kroz cijepanje i time aktiviranje dva upalna citokin, interleukin-1β (IL-1β) i interleukin-18 (IL-18) kao i piroptozu, programirani razgradni ćelijski smrtni put, cijepanjem gasdermina D.[8] Dva upalna citokina aktivirana kaspazom-1 izlučuju se iz ćelije kako bi dalje izazvali upalni odgovor u susjednim ćelijama.[9]
