Sarmatlar — Azərbaycanlıların etnogenezində iştirak etmiş atlı köçəri qədim irandilli^{[1][2][3][4][5]} xalqlarından biridir. Sarmatlar iskit dilində danışırdılar və daha geniş İskif mədəniyyətlərinin bir hissəsi idilər.
