Thermus é un xénero de bacterias termófilas, que pertence ao grupo Deinococcus-Thermus. Entre as especies que inclúe salientan as seguintes:[1][2]
- Thermus aquaticus Brock & Freeze, 1969. A ADN polimerase (Taq polimerase) desta bacteria termófila é utilizada na técnica da PCR, xa que resiste moi ben as temperaturas utilizadas nese procedemento.
- Thermus thermophilus. Inicialmente chamouse Flavobacterium thermophilum. O seu encima rTth ADN polimerase úsase en certas aplicacións da PCR.
