An indirect presidential election was held in Hungary on 10 March 2022.[1] Katalin Novák became the first female president of Hungary after winning an absolute majority.[2][3]

Incumbent president of the Republic János Áder was ineligible to run due to term limits.[4] There were two candidates for the post.[3] The governing alliance, Fidesz-KDNP, nominated Katalin Novák, the former minister for family affairs and an ally of Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán, as its presidential candidate.[5] The opposition alliance, United for Hungary, nominated Péter Róna, a lawyer and economist, as its presidential candidate.[6]
