Liu Guoying (born November 26, 1967) is a Chinese agronomist known for his expertise in tea science and sustainable agricultural practices.[1] He has dedicated his career to advancing tea cultivation techniques and promoting sustainable practices within the industry.[1] With over three decades of experience, Liu has held various significant positions, including his current role as a senior agronomist at the Wuyishan Agricultural Science Research Institute since 2007.[1][2]
In 1998, Liu founded YANSHANG, a traditional Chinese Wuyi Rock Tea brand, where he serves as a master of Wuyi Rock Tea crafting techniques. He is also recognized as an inheritor of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Wuyi Rock Tea. Liu is a Senior Agronomist, an Advanced Technician in Tea Processing, and one of China’s Top Ten Artisan Tea Experts.[3][2] He was one of the first Science and Technology Commissioners in Nanping City and is a Founder of the Wuyi Mountain Folk Tea Competition. Liu is also recognized as one of the first certified Chinese Tea Masters in the Oolong Tea category and one of the first Wuyi Rock Tea (Da Hong Pao) Craft Inheritors.[3][2] He has contributed as an expert on the Fujian Provincial Agricultural Department’s Tea Tree Variety Certification Committee, a member of the Domestic Experts for the Oolong Tea International Standards Committee, and a member of the Fujian Provincial Tea Industry Standardization Committee. Liu is also a mentor for Wuyi Institute (Academy of Tea and Food).[2][3][4]
