The American Trail was a national mini-series for television sponsored by Farmland Industries, featuring 3½-minute segments that showcased the diverse people, places, and agricultural stories across the United States. Building on the success of The Nebraska Trail, which had focused on Nebraska's regional culture and industry, the series expanded its scope to include 13 states. This transition marked significant growth for Smeloff Television Production, turning what had begun as a small, local operation into a nationally recognized entity. The series aimed to highlight America's agricultural heritage while bringing attention to the unique aspects of each region it covered.[1]
