Hlukhiv (Ukrainian: Глухів, IPA: [ˈɦɫu.x⁽ʲ⁾iu̯] ⓘ; Russian: Глухов, romanized: Glukhov)[1] is a small historic city on the Esman River. It belongs to Shostka Raion of Sumy Oblast of Ukraine. Population: 31,789 (2022 estimate).[2]
It is known for being a capital of the Cossack Hetmanate after the deposition of Ivan Mazepa in 1708–1764.
