Based in Milan, it was distributed across Italy and abroad, and published continuously from 1873 to 1962 for a total of almost 5,000 issues. Together with La Domenica del Corriere and La Tribuna illustrata, it was one of the most read illustrated weeklies in Italy from the late nineteenth century to the advent of television. In 1981, publication was resumed under various publishers.
