Matthew Gasda

Matthew Gasda, b.1989, is an American playwright, author and essayist who lives in New York City. He graduated from Syracuse University, where he studied philosophy. His works are known for their authentic dialogue and exploration of contemporary themes, often staged in intimate settings that challenge traditional theater norms. His underground approach has been featured in the New York Times [1] and he has been dubbed the "modern day Chekhov" by New York Magazine.[2] He is the founder and director of The Brooklyn Center for Theater Research [3].

Gasda gained prominence with his 2022 play, "Dimes Square," which explores the lives of artists and media figures in New York's Chinatown. The play was performed in unconventional venues like lofts and apartments, contributing to its underground appeal.[4] In 2023, Applause Books published "Dimes Square and Other Plays," a collection that includes "Quartet," "Minotaur," and "Berlin Story." That same year, Gasda founded the Brooklyn Center for Theatre Research, aiming to foster innovative theatrical works.[5]
