Naomi (biblical figure)

Ruth swearing to Naomi by Jan Victors, 1653
Naomi entreating Ruth and Orpah to return to the land of Moab, by William Blake

Naomi (Classically /ˈn.m, nˈm/,[1] colloquially /nˈmi, ˈn.mi/;[2] Hebrew: נָעֳמִי, Modern: Noʻomī, Tiberian: Nā‘ŏmī) is Ruth's mother-in-law in the Hebrew Bible in the Book of Ruth. The etymology of her name is not certain, but it is possible that it means "good, pleasant, lovely, winsome."[3]
