In China, Tajiks are ethnic Pamiris who mostly live in the Pamir Mountains of Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County, in Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang. They are one of the 56 ethnic groups officially recognized by the Chinese government. Most Tajiks speak an Eastern Iranian language; the vast majority speak Sarikoli while a minority speak Wakhi.
