The Tyrrhenian Sea (/tɪˈrniən, -ˈr-/, tih-REE-nee-ən ,-RAY-;[1] Italian: Mar Tirreno [mar tirˈrɛːno] or [-ˈreː-])[note 1] is part of the Mediterranean Sea off the western coast of Italy. It is named for the Tyrrhenian people identified with the Etruscans of Italy.
