This is a list of missing athletes who (as of March 2014) are the holder of a major athletics record in an IAAF-recognised record event, defined as:

• Current continental record holders
• Current meet record holders of a major international championship
• National record holders for the for top five athletics nations (USA, Russia, Britain, Germany, China)
• Meet record holders of IAAF Diamond League

A total of 40 area/national record holders were missing and 38 meet record holders were missing at creation on 4 March 2013.
