Danubius vel Danuvius sive Ister (Theodisce: Donau; Slovacice: Dunaj; Hungarice: Duna; Croatice: Dunav; Serbice: Дунав/Dunav; Bulgarice: Дунав /Dunav/; Romanice: Dunărea; Ucrainice: Дунай /Dunaj/) est flumen in Europa, quod circiter 2860 chiliometra patet. Olim finis Imperii Romani fuit. Temporibus antiquis primo usque ad aquas cadentes prope urbem Dierna (nomine Orsova nostris diebus in Romania sitam) Danubius, ac deinde usque ad mare Hister sive Ister dictus est.[1] Quapropter Ovidius poeta eum binominem vocat.[2]

Danubius oritur in Germania ex fluviolis confluentibus Breg et Brigach. Percurrit nationes urbesque insequentes, in ordine a fonte ad os:

Postremo in Pontum Euxinum influit.
