Chinese people in Sri Lanka
Chinese people in Sri Lanka or Sri Lankan Chinese[1] (Sinhala: ශ්රී ලාංකික චීන; Tamil: இலங்கை சீனர்கள்), are Sri Lankan citizens who came from China and are born or living in Sri Lanka. Most Sri Lankan Chinese people are Hakka and Cantonese people from the southern sea areas of China. Others are Han people from Hubei and Shandong who came to Sri Lanka in 1600-1800.[2]
It is common for Sri Lankan Chinese people to marry Sinhalese people so many have a little bit of Sinhalese ancestry.[3][4][5]Approximately 80% of Sri Lankan Chinese live in Colombo, the capital city.[6]
