Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo [ 1] (June 25, 1966 – September 30, 2024) was a Congolese -American professional basketball player and humanitarian. Mutombo played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the Denver Nuggets , Atlanta Hawks , Philadelphia 76ers , New Jersey Nets , New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets .
In October 2022, Mutombo announced that he was undergoing treatment for a brain tumor .[ 2] He died from brain cancer in Atlanta, Georgia on September 30, 2024 at the age of 58.[ 3]
