Leaders of the New School

Leaders of the New School was an American hip hop group that was formed in 1989. The group was based in Long Island, New York. It members were natives Charlie Brown (born Bryan Higgins) and Dinco D (born James Jackson); North Amityville, New York, Cut Monitor Milo (real name Sheldon Scott), and Busta Rhymes (real name Trevor Smith, Jr.).

Leaders of the New School made its first appearance on an Elektra Records compilation titled Rubáiyát: Elektra's 40th Anniversary, on the only hip hop song called "Mt. Airy Groove".

In 1991, the group performed with A Tribe Called Quest on the hit single "Scenario" on The Arsenio Hall Show. Later, the group's first album, A Future Without a Past..., was released. It included the hits "Case of the P.T.A.", "Sobb Story", and "The International Zone Coaster". The group was praised for their lightweight content and deliveries of calls and responses to the old school.
