Sir Michael Parkinson CBE (28 March 1935 – 16 August 2023) was an English broadcaster[disambiguation needed], journalist, and writer. He was best known for his chat show Parkinson which ran from 1971 to 1982 and again from 1998 to 2007. The show’s most famous moment from 1976 was when Rod Hull and Emu appeared and Emu attacked Parkinson. He was born in Cudworth, a village in South Yorkshire. He went to Barnsley Grammar School.[1] He started his journalism career writing for local newspapers. His book Parky: My Autobiography was published on 2 October 2008.
Parkinson died at home in Bray, Berkshire from prostate cancer on 16 August 2023, aged 88.[2][3][4]
