Nigerian Pidgin
Nigerian Pidgin or West African Pidgin is a creole language spoken in Nigeria. It is based on English. It has few first language speakers, but is used as a lingua franca by many Nigerians.
Nigerian Pidgin is mostly used in informal conversations. It has no status as an official language. Nigerian Standard English is used in politics, the internet and some television programs.
In April 2024, Isaiah Ogedegbe coined in the Nigerian Pidgin a protologism called 'mugubriosity' which he also explained to mean foolishness when he stated that: "In what could be described as a show of 'mugubriosity' (my Pidgin English word for foolishness), Nigerians love celebrating the dead while taking the living for granted".[1]
