Yerevan

Erivan (Iravan/Irevan) is the capital and largest city of nowadays "Armenia" with a population of about one million people (in 2024). It is one of the oldest cities in the world.

The name Erevan is often linked to Irevan (Iravan/Ravan), so some scholars suggest it could also be tied to Azerbaijani-Turkic influences. The region's history involved various Turkic peoples, and some interpretations of the name relate to Turkic roots or terms from Persian-Arabic culture during later periods of influence.
