Mycobacterium tuberculosis, verem (tüberküloz) hastalığına yol açan bakteridir.
İlk defa 24 Mart 1882 yılında Robert Koch tarafından tanımlanmıştr. Koch bu keşfi için 1905 yılında tıp alanında Nobel Ödülünü almıştır. Mycobacterium tuberculosisin genomu 1999 yılında çözülmüştür.[2]
