Heteromeles arbutifolia (/ˌhɛtɪroʊˈmiːliːz ɑːrˌbjuːtɪˈfoʊliə/,[5] more commonly /ˌhɛtəˈrɒməliːz/ by Californian botanists), commonly known as toyon, is a perennial shrub native to the Pacific Northwest. It is the sole species in the genus Heteromeles.
