Sean Penn is an American actor, director and producer. He has received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award as well as nominations for three BAFTA Awards. In 2015 he received an Honorary César.

Penn has received two Academy Awards for Best Actor for his roles as a grieving father in the Clint Eastwood drama Mystic River (2003) and Harvey Milk in the Gus Van Sant drama Milk (2008). He was Oscar-nominated for his roles as a killer on death row in Dead Man Walking (1995), a jazz guitarist in Sweet and Lowdown (1999), and a mentally challenged man in I Am Sam (2001). He won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for Mystic River and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for Milk.

He won the Berlin International Film Festival's Silver Bear for Best Actor for Dead Man Walking (1995), the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor for his role in She's So Lovely (1997) and Venice International Film Festival's Volpi Cup for Best Actor for Hurlyburly (1989) and 21 Grams (2003).
