Arch Linux (/ɑːrtʃ/)[7][8] is an independently developed Linux distribution designed with a rolling-release model. The default Arch Linux installation is intentionally minimal, and is configured by the user during installation so they may add only what they require.[9] Arch is the basis for a multitude of other distributions, such as Manjaro, EndeavourOS, and Parabola.[10]
Pacman, a package manager written specifically for Arch Linux, is used to install, remove and update software packages.[11] An alternative is the Arch User Repository (AUR), which is the community-driven repository for Arch Linux; AUR packages can be downloaded and built, or installed through an AUR 'helper'.[12][13]
Arch Linux uses a rolling release model, and is kept up-to-date by regularly updating the individual pieces of software that it comprises. The only "releases" are snapshots of main system components released monthly to provide an up-to-date installation medium.[14]
Arch Linux has comprehensive documentation in the form of a community-run wiki known as the ArchWiki.[15][16][17]
Pacman is [...] and is licensed through the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later.
Officially, the 'Arch' in "Arch Linux" is pronounced /ɑːrtʃ/ as in an "archer"/bowman, or "arch-nemesis", and not as in "ark" or "archangel".
One of the first questions wondered if McGovern was jealous of anything from any other distro. To that he answered Arch's wiki calling it "an absolutely amazing resource" that he himself uses.
