John of Salisbury (late 1110s – 25 October 1180), who described himself as Johannes Parvus ("John the Little"),[1] was an English author, philosopher, educationalist, diplomat and bishop of Chartres. Among all the distinguished figures of his age (he) stands out as the most notable representative of that revival of learning which gave the title "medieval renaissance" to the twelfth century[2].
