Structural maintenance of chromosomes protein 1B (SMC-1B) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SMC1B gene .[ 5] [ 6] [ 7] SMC proteins engage in chromosome organization and can be broken into 3 groups based on function which are cohesins , condensins , and DNA repair .[ 8] [ 9] [ 10] meiosis and mitosis .[ 7] [ 11] cohesins REC8 , STAG3 and SMC3 in sister-chromatid cohesion throughout the whole meiotic process in human oocytes .[ 12]
