Begum Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib[a] (8 August 1930 – 15 August 1975),[b] commonly known as Begum Mujib or Bangamata[c] and also known by her nickname Renu[d] was the wife of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first President of Bangladesh. She is the mother of Sheikh Hasina, the leader of the Awami League and former Prime Minister from 2009-2024. She was killed along with her family.[6]
