This template is used to configure the articles found in the Selected person or Selected biography section found on most Wikipedia Portal main pages. Use it on the article pages that are linked to the Selected person sub-page, e.g. Portal:Foo/Selected person/1. For the quickest and easiest way to create the Portal:Foo/Selected bar sub-page and related article links, use one of the {{Numbered subpages}} templates.

It is unnecessary to include braces, quotation marks or other wiki-markup in the template. The |text= field does allow the use of wiki-markup at the contributor's discretion.
The long form of this template places the subjects name immediately to the left of the portrait and gives you the option of adding birth and death years. If the |born=
field is not included, the template will not include the |died=
field.
