Avellaneda is a city in the Buenos Aires Province in Argentina. In 2010, 342,677 people lived there. It is 7 km (4 mi) south of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.
Independiente and Racing, two of the most significant Argentine football teams, are based in Avellaneda. Independiente's 1973 Intercontinental Cup victory made the city the third in the world (after Milan and Montevideo) to have two world championship teams.
