Baja California (also known as Baja California Norte) is a northwestern Mexican state in the northern section of the Baja California Peninsula. It borders the state Baja California Sur to the south, and Sonora to the east. It also borders the U.S. state of California to the north. It means "Lower California" or "North Lower California".
Baja California is the furthest northwest state in Mexico.
The state has seven municipalities.
