Lierna is a comune in the province of Lecco in Lombardy, “the Diamond of Lake Como” in north-west Italy. It lies on the eastern shore of Lake Como in the area Centro Lago. It is about 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Milan and about 15 kilometres (9 mi) north-west of Lecco. It has an area of 11.3 km²[3] and has twelve frazioni: Bancola, Casate, Castello, Cisarino, Genico, Giussana, Grumo, La Foppa, Mugiasco, Olcianico, Sornico and Villa.[4] At the end of 2014 the population was 2176 people, in 983 families.[5] Lierna is the most represented village on Lake Como over the centuries in works of art.
Lierna borders the comunes of Bellagio, Mandello del Lario, Varenna, Limonta (Oliveto Lario), Esino Lario, Mandello del Lario.
