Ceruloplazmin jest feroksidazni enzim koji je kod ljudi kodiran genom CP sa hromosoma 3.[5][6][7]

Ceruloplazmin je glavni protein koji prenosi bakar u krvi, a osim toga ima ulogu u metabolizmu željeza. Prvi put je opisan 1948.[8] Drugi protein, hefestin, poznat je po svojoj homologiji sa ceruloplazminom, a takođe učestvuje u metabolizmu gvožđa i verovatno bakra.
